“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9 (HCSB)
If you believe that Jesus is the son of God and that he died for your sins and rose from the grave on the third day, you will spend forever with Jesus in Heaven. This belief is what the Bible calls faith in Jesus.
How do you know you have real faith?
The book of 1 John tells us in what ways we change and how our lives look after we become Christians.
This verse tells us one of the ways a person is changed when they have faith. When you believe in God, you want to obey God and one of the things God tells us to do is confess our sins to Him. We do this in prayer to God directly, there is no person that can do this for you, we confess directly to God. Confession is not something done with words only, not something you do only because you think you have to. Confession comes from your heart and you do it because you want to please God.
Everyone that has faith in Jesus will confess their sins, and God will forgive all of their sins. God forgives all the sins in the past, present, and future of a person who has this faith.
On our own, the only thing we earn is death and hell, but Jesus is perfect. When you have faith in Jesus, God sees the perfectness of Jesus when he looks at you.
