You are so great; you are the one true God that spoke our world into existence. Your holiness is beyond measure.
We are gathered today because people are sick, people have died and many more are on the same course. We are here today because we have a common enemy; our foe is cancer which causes so much suffering. We lift up to you all the people in this world that are hurting. Those that have cancer, those that love someone who has cancer, and those that lost someone to cancer. Please heal the sick, comfort them and comfort their families. Please bless the efforts of Relay for Life and use it as a powerful force to end the suffering cancer causes.
You are no stranger to suffering, you know our pain. You have experienced death on a cross. The miserable death every one of us has earned because of our sin, you willingly put yourself through.
Let us all take comfort in knowing that suffering has a purpose. You suffered and died so that all who repent of their sin and believe in you will have eternal life. You rose from the grave on the third day and conquered death for all that repent and believe. The purpose in your suffering is so selfless and so great. Our suffering too can have a purpose. It may be a mystery, but you tell us in your Word that all things work together for the good of those that love you.
You are the source of all true love. Please bless each one of us today with that love. Love for you and love for each other.
It’s in Jesus name we pray.
The officiator referred to my prayer as a sermon, perhaps next time I need to be more brief.
